Bacteriostatic Water for Injection USP is supplied in a 30 mL multiple-dose vial. The 0.9% benzyl alcohol it contains acts as a bacteriostatic preservative, suppressing microbial growth inside the vial between uses. That is what distinguishes it from plain sterile water: a single vial can be drawn from repeatedly across multiple reconstitution events, provided aseptic technique is maintained.
